Richmond, VA, 9/30/24 — Feed More recently received over 40,000 pounds of healthy produce, lean proteins, nonperishable goods and more from Publix Super Markets Charities to support our Mobile Pantry program serving Richmond neighbors facing food insecurity.
Like all of Feed More’s Mobile Pantries, this distribution provides a variety of food items for wholesome meals in a local community where neighbors lack easy access to healthy food and grocery stores. Each neighbor received perishable and nonperishable food items donated by Publix Super Markets Charities, including lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other shelf-stable items. Additionally, local Publix associates volunteered in support of Feed More’s hunger-fighting mission, distributing food to neighbors in need at the Mobile Pantry, and preparing and packaging meals in Feed More’s Steve and Sara Bayard Community Kitchen.
Publix Charities’ donation is especially needed as Feed More sees increased demand for food assistance among Central Virginia neighbors. Today, it’s estimated that 1 out of every 9 Central Virginians don’t know where their next meal will come from. And of that, 1 in 6 kids and teens in Feed More’s service area aren’t receiving the necessary nutrition.
Publix Charities’ donation will help increase capacity and meet this elevated need. A committed hunger-fighting partner, Publix Charities has contributed more than $1.4 million in funding to Feed More since 2016, enabling us to better serve the needs of our community through improvements to our Community Kitchen, transportation fleet, Children’s Programs, Mobile Pantries and more.
“We simply couldn’t do what we do without committed hunger-fighting partners like Publix Super Markets Charities,” said Laura Gambrel, Director of Food Sourcing at Feed More. “From volunteering in support of our Community Kitchen and Mobile Pantry program, to donating more than 40,000 pounds of nutritious food for the neighbors we help, Publix Charities continues to make a meaningful difference for those in need across Central Virginia.”
“At Publix, we believe providing food for our neighbors in need is our greatest opportunity to give back and doing so is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy. “We’re also grateful to Publix Super Markets Charities for its continued commitment to helping people experiencing food insecurity. Publix and Publix Charities’ continued work with food banks across the Southeast provide vital resources and nourishment to better the lives of individuals in our communities.”
This donation from Publix Super Markets Charities to Feed More is one of several donations made this year to help provide food and other essential support to people facing hunger. In all, Publix Super Markets Charities has donated $11 million to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofit partners in 2024.
