RICHMOND, Va. – Feed More will again participate in the At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program (Child and Adult Care Food Program or Kids Cafe program) to provide snacks and healthy meals to children and teens at 30+ afterschool programs and community centers throughout Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities.
“Schools are one of our biggest allies in helping ensure our region’s students have access to the nutritious, brain-building food that they need,” said Ruth Ann Caplice, Children’s Program Manager at Feed More. “With 1 in 6 kids in Central Virginia struggling with hunger, our Kids Cafe provides the nutritional component to after-school programs that mentor and tutor children in our area and ensures students learn, grow and most importantly, thrive.”
Feed More’s Kids Cafe provides meals that are well-balanced and focused on nutrition. From BBQ chicken and green beans to jambalaya with brown rice and fresh fruit, this program provides students across our region with options kids and teens have grown to love.
“The nutritious and cooked-from-scratch suppers are prepared by our amazing Bayard Community Kitchen staff and volunteers, and served at after-school programs across our service area,” said Caplice.
In addition to receiving a healthy supper meal, these programs also offer students mentoring, tutoring, cultural enrichment and social activities. In 2023, our partner school and community programs provided more than 150,000 nourishing meals to our region’s kids and teens via the Kids Cafe program.
