RICHMOND, Va – This Thanksgiving, Feed More is working hard to ensure neighbors experiencing food insecurity have the nourishment to thrive – and they need the Central Virginia community’s help!
While most of the neighbors Feed More helps have jobs and income, the rising cost of essentials like childcare, housing and insurance are stretching budgets to the breaking point. When an unexpected expense comes up – like a medical bill or car trouble – their savings run out, forcing difficult decisions between healthy groceries and other essentials like rent or utilities.
And we know more families in our region are turning to food pantries to help make ends meet: this year alone, we’ve seen a 14% increase in demand for food assistance. And during the recent federal government shutdown, visits to our food pantries went up nearly 11% compared to the previous 35 days.
Given this elevated level of ongoing need, we’re incredibly grateful for the community support we’ve received to help nourish those in need across our community. If you’re feeling inspired to give back, here are meaningful ways to help ensure every neighbor can enjoy a wholesome holiday meal:
Donate Food:
Nonperishables like canned goods, nut butter, rice, pasta, cooking oils and spices are always in highest demand at our partner pantries, especially during the holiday season.
- Donation Drop-Off: Feed More’s Kroger Donation Center (8020 Villa Park Drive) accepts donations Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a full list of our most-needed items, please visit: feedmore.org/donate-food.
- After-Hours or Weekend Donations: Nonperishable items can be placed at any time in the blue donation bins located in front of the Kroger Donation Center.
- PLEASE NOTE: The Kroger Donation Center will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, and will be closed Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. Regular hours will resume Monday, December 1.
Donate Time:
Feel good while you do some serious good by volunteering with Feed More this holiday season!
- We’re looking for volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels in Highland Springs, Chesterfield, Villa Park and Manchester.
- For all openings, please visit: feedmore.org/donate-time.
Give the Gift of Hope:
Financial donations help us meet the needs of neighbors across the 29 counties and 5 cities we serve – and right now, you can double your impact!
- Now through 12/31, every dollar you give will be matched. If we hit our goal, we can provide 2 million meals this holiday season! Give today: feedmore.org/gift.
Every action, big or small, makes a real, and tangible, difference in the lives of so many across Central Virginia. Learn more and see how you can help at FeedMore.org.
