Feed More Spotlight: Volunteer Advisory Council

08/27/2019

Our dedicated volunteers are truly the backbone of Feed More. Each day, these kind and caring individuals take on critical roles that help execute our mission of getting food out to our neighbors in need. We value their hard work and passion for the community so much! It was with that in mind that our Volunteer Advisory Council (VAC) was created several years ago, and has been evolving ever since.

This year the VAC is working hard to identify new opportunities on enriching and strengthening the Feed More experience for all our volunteers.

“This year we have been trying to really focus our efforts in getting volunteers to have a better understanding of all the areas of Feed More,” said Sudeshna Das-Menezes, Director of Volunteer Services. “It is such a big operation and many of our regular volunteers work in one or two areas which can make it hard to grasp the scale of everything Feed More is doing.”

Since the summer, all of our Council members have been volunteering around Feed More. From our Backpack program to Meals on Wheels deliveries, Mobile Pantry distributions, Hunger Hotline and so much more, our VAC is gaining insights on how our volunteers work in each area.

“Once the Council has worked in every facet of Feed More, they can help identify development opportunities as well as advising fellow volunteers about areas that best fit their personality,” shares Celeste Cooper, Volunteer Advisory Council President. “Volunteers that work in areas they have a background in or greater interest will have a better experience and will benefit Feed More and all the amazing work that goes on here.”

This is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting year for the VAC!
