Volunteering at a food pantry is one of the most direct ways to fight hunger close to home. For Jean and her husband Kenneth, it’s rooted in a simple belief: when you have something to give, you share it.
For the past three years, the pair have been a steady presence at Project Care-For food pantry in Clarksville, volunteering alongside members of their church.
Jean helps allocate and pack groceries, meats, and fresh produce, while Kenneth carries those items out to the cars of neighbors waiting outside. Together, they also spend time in the pantry’s community garden, helping to grow fresh produce that go directly to neighbors who need them.
“We just saw the need,” she says. “We were brought up in the country and lived on a farm, and we had vegetables and everything and just shared them with everybody. Not everyone’s like that. They don’t have the means to have a garden, so we just love to share with what we can.”
Volunteers like Jean and Kenneth remind us that giving back isn’t about how much you have. It’s about showing up, sharing what you can and strengthening the community you call home.
