Publix Supermarket Charities gives back in a BIG way!
Last week, our friends at Publix Supermarket Charities were here to make a big announcement – an incredibly generous donation to FeedMore of $50,000! This gift is part of a larger effort from Publix to help make a positive, and real, impact in the communities they serve, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their generosity.
Several members of the FeedMore team attended the event, including our Chief Operations Officer Rick Gliot, who spoke about what we do at FeedMore and how exciting this donation is to us. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney was also in attendance, and extended a few words about the power of collaboration and working together to make an impact in our community. We also welcomed State Senator Glen Sturtevant, Publix Senior Vice President of Retail Kevin Murphy, Executive Director of Publix Supermarket Charities Kelly Williams-Puccio and several local Publix store managers to this wonderful event.
In addition to the generous grant to help us feed more, Publix also announced a $5 million donation to other non-profits and food banks across the southeast.
“For more than 50 years, we have been nourishing the communities in which Publix operates,” said Carol Jenkins Barnett, president of Publix Super Markets Charities. “Through these efforts, we’ve supported the plight of the hungry and homeless, recognizing the importance of proper nutrition and the access to food. Children, seniors and families should never have to wonder where they will find their next meal. Our Foundation is dedicated to providing more meals and giving more hope to our communities.”
This generous gift from Publix will go directly to our Backpack Program, which provides kid-friendly and easy to prepare meals for children that don’t have access to food while they are out of school during the weekends.
The day didn’t end with their donation!
More than 20 Publix associates headed into our Distribution Center to volunteer. This group spent a few hours volunteering to help sort fresh produce and other perishable food items that will distributed through our Network of Agencies to neighbors in need throughout central Virginia.
