Local Officials Volunteer During Annual March for Meals

04/01/2024

Local elected officials across Central Virginia joined Feed More to celebrate March for Meals and help deliver wholesome meals to area homebound neighbors in need! This annual celebration honors the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program of 1965, the federal legislation which helps to fund community-based programs like Meals on Wheels.

For more than 55 years, Feed More’s Meals on Wheels program has been serving homebound Central Virginia neighbors, allowing our region’s seniors and disabled adults to remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible by providing fresh, diet-specific, made-from-scratch meals prepared daily in our Bayard Community Kitchen. This crucial program serves up to 2,000 homebound clients each week along approximately 100 routes throughout 10 counties and 4 cities in the Greater Richmond area, and extends far beyond the meal by providing our recipients with a friendly smile and regular safety checks, reducing the social isolation that our homebound clients often feel and reassuring family members who live far away from their loved ones.

Feed More is proud to be part of a community that comes together to serve all those in need, and we’re honored to partner with our local elected officials to raise awareness around our Meals on Wheels program and the important work that our dedicated staff and volunteers do each day to address food insecurity among our senior and homebound neighbors, combat social isolation, enable independence and improve health for years to come.

A heartfelt thank you to officials from Chesterfield, Hanover, Hopewell, New Kent, Petersburg and Richmond City for joining us on this special day and helping us to deliver nourishment and hope to those in need!
