What We're Looking For
The position is primarily responsible for Meals on Wheels volunteer coordination. In addition, the position is responsible for recruiting, recognition, and retention activities of volunteers to support the overall mission of Feed More, including drivers for Meals on Wheels. Community networking and identification of outreach opportunities is critical to sustain a level of trained corporate groups, civic groups, and individuals necessary to deliver meals safely and effectively to homebound individuals.
The Volunteer Coordinator (VC) provides volunteers with induction, and acts as a liaison between the Senior Manager, Volunteer Services and Meals on Wheels Client Services, as well as supporting departments (Programs and Operations). The VC also works directly with the Client Services Operations Manager to ensure all staffing needs are met in the packaging room.

What You'll Do
- Coordinate and schedule volunteers and volunteer groups for Meals on Wheels service delivery (dispatch). The position is responsible for ensuring sufficient volunteer staffing during dispatch. Dispatch typically runs during business hours Monday-Friday and on select holidays.
- Deliver meals to clients whenever routes are open.
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, market segments, and populations to create a volunteer pipeline for future needs.
- Work productively in collaboration with other staff in Feed More’s Volunteer Services Department to deliver on projects and assignments.
- Review volunteer satisfaction data and work with the Volunteer Services Department to develop/execute engagement and retention strategies to improve volunteer satisfaction.
- Complete cross-training in all programs staffed by the Feed More Volunteer Services Department, thus able to provide coverage as needed with other programs.
- Help plan volunteer recognition programs, events, and initiatives.
- Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Senior Manager.
- Facilitate supplemental delivery services when volunteers are unavailable.
- Utilize the Volunteer Matters database, our volunteer management platform, to plan, organize, and report on volunteer activity daily.
- Work with the Client Services and Community Kitchen departments to ensure drivers’ needs are met, and critical information is provided to volunteers in an accurate and timely manner.
- Recognize all volunteers for their service to Feed More regularly as well as assist in facilitating formal and informal recognition efforts and events, to promote community and enhance the volunteer experience.
Must Have
- Prior experience with non-profit organizations as an employee or as a volunteer
- Excellent customer service skills
- Confidence and Expertise with MS Office Suite (Excel, One Note, PowerPoint, Teams, Word, etc.)
- Effective organization, planning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively navigate multiple competing priorities that may be continuously evolving
- Prior experience with database management
- Flexible schedule to accommodate organizational needs. The position requires the individual to work during inclement weather. Must be available for occasional weekend and evening hours as needed for the program or Volunteer Services Department needs as well as off-site outreach opportunities.
- Reliable transportation be prepared to use it while delivering on the requirements of the job.
- Current Driver’s license and good driving record.
- Willingness to travel within the service area of Feed More – 29 counties and 5 cities – to assist with recruitment and training of volunteers.
Ideally, Will Have
- Bilingual in English/Spanish
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or another people-oriented field.
- Knowledge of food bank programs and an awareness of how specific functions relate to programs and the mission of food banks
- Experience in public speaking
- Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about volunteering
- Creative thinking skills
