What We're Looking For

We’re in search of an enthusiastic, mission-driven and hard-working individual to join our Accounting and Finance team this Summer! This individual should demonstrate critical thinking, business acumen and team mentality.

Schedule:

  • Full-Time
  • Monday through Friday

The Summer Internship Program will run from May 26 to August 7, 2026.

What You'll Do

The candidate will support the Finance team with strategic analysis, operational improvements, and financial controls. Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial Dashboard Development
    • Design and maintain a Finance-focused dashboard for Feed More, including key metrics, KPIs, and benchmarks.
    • Research and incorporate best practices and benchmarking data from peer food banks within the Feeding America network.
    • Translate financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights for leadership.
  • Internal Audit & Quality Control
    • Research best practices for nonprofit internal audit, internal controls, and quality assurance procedures.
    • Assist in evaluating current financial and operational controls and identifying opportunities to strengthen compliance, accuracy, and efficiency.
    • Support documentation of processes, controls, and audit-ready procedures.
  • Vendor Contract Review & Cost Analysis
    • Review existing vendor contracts for scope, pricing, terms, and renewal provisions.
    • Research alternative vendors and pricing options to identify potential cost savings and service improvements.
    • Assist in developing comparative analyses and recommendations to support procurement and vendor selection decisions.
  • Budgeting & Financial Process Improvement
    • Analyze and improve the efficiency, accuracy, and usability of the organization’s budget Excel spreadsheets.
    • Implement enhancements such as standardized templates, automated calculations, and clearer reporting outputs.
    • Support budget-to-actual analysis and variance reporting.

Must Have

The right candidate for this job will be excited to learn about the food banking industry and seek to further expand their accounting and finance knowledge. Ideally, this candidate will be flexible, resourceful, and proactive with strong interpersonal and customer skills.

We’re also looking for someone who has or is:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint(including formulas, pivot tables, and data organization).
  • Ability to research, synthesize, and present financial and operational information clearly.
  • Understanding of nonprofit or public-sector financial management concepts preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Junior or Senior currently enrolled in an undergraduate Finance, Accounting, Economics or related degree program
  • GPA of 3.0+ preferred
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a confident self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and working within a team environment.
  • Capacity to learn quickly, adapt to change and work in an objective driven environment
  • Innovative problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills both Qualitative and Quantitative
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all business partners.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate pros and cons of alternative solutions and effectively translate to broad audiences.
  • Knowledge of business systems, spreadsheets, database technology, financial modeling, and business planning is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently
