Throughout history, people in America have united to drive change. This September, during Hunger Action Month, Feed More is calling on Central Virginia to come together once again to fight hunger in our community.
“People across the country have demonstrated immense care for their neighbors in crisis time and time again, helping to build stronger, more resilient communities,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “Ending the hunger crisis in America is no different. When we all work together, alongside our neighbors facing hunger, we can find solutions to ensure that everyone has the food they need to thrive. This Hunger Action Month, our hope for the nation is to start building this new reality together, through unified action toward a shared vision of a hunger free America.”
Food insecurity in America has reached its highest rate in over a decade, reaching over 47 million people facing hunger, including 14 million children. And in Central Virginia, we estimate that 1 in 9 neighbors experience food insecurity – and of that, 1 in 6 children in our region don’t know where their next meal will come from. This means there are more neighbors who have never had to ask for help, while those we serve continue to face difficult challenges.
Amid this changing and dynamic environment, Feed More stands prepared to continue providing our region’s food insecure families, seniors and homebound neighbors with the nourishment they need to thrive.
Here are some ways you can get involved:
- Volunteer: From preparing and packaging food in our Bayard Community Kitchen or delivering our Meals on Wheels, there is something for everyone at Feed More. Morning and afternoon volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday. Register through our online volunteer portal at: FeedMore.org/volunteer.
- Start a food drive: Supporters can drop off donations through our Kroger Community Donation Center or 24/7 in our blue donation bins (8020 Villa Park Drive, Richmond, VA 23228).
- Donate: Your financial support makes all our hunger-fighting programs possible. More than 97% of every gift goes back into our programs and mission, and every dollar that we receive enables us to distribute three meals to our neighbors in need. Donate online at give.FeedMore.org.
