A Year of Volunteering

Many people wonder how to make real difference in their community by volunteering after retirement. For Albert, the answer came quickly, following more than 30 years in food sales. “Feed More came to mind immediately,” he says. “I felt like it would be a perfect fit.”

Many people wonder how to make real difference in their community by volunteering after retirement. For Albert, the answer came quickly, following more than 30 years in food sales.

“Feed More came to mind immediately,” he says. “I felt like it would be a perfect fit.”

But Albert didn’t want to just sign up for one shift. He set a personal challenge: to be the first to experience every volunteer opportunity Feed More offers.

“I wanted to see where Feed More was helping the community, and in what areas,” he explains. “After reviewing all the projects online, I wanted to try every one of them.”

And after just one year, he’s done it all – from sorting and preparing food for our Children’s Programs and delivering Meals on Wheels, to assisting neighbors that call in to our Help Line, supporting our Development team and much more. Some roles became fast favorites.

“I like working in the kitchen packaging meals. I like the people there, and knowing that the meals are going to help people with Meals on Wheels.”

Volunteering with our Development team and Children’s Programs also topped the list.

Albert’s message to others: “Volunteering is rewarding, sign up and help out in your community. You’ll be happy you did.”

And now that he’s completed his challenge, does he plan to keep volunteering? “100%,” he says. “I’ve dedicated my Mondays just for Feed More.”
