FeedMore, Central Virginia’s core-hunger relief organization, recently announced it has received a $25,000 donation from the Nationwide Foundation to support its hunger-relief efforts in Central Virginia. With nearly 200,000 children, families and seniors struggling with hunger, the grant will help FeedMore continue to provide healthy meals through its network of partner agencies and comprehensive programs to neighbors in need across its 34 city and county service area in Central Virginia.
“We are able to do what we do because of the support we receive from our community and are grateful to have the Nationwide Foundation standing beside us in the fight against hunger,” said Tim McDermott, Chief Development Officer at FeedMore. “Hunger is a year round issue and this gift will help us continue to provide healthy meals to our neighbors in need across Central Virginia.”
This grant is part of a $1.5 million gift to Feeding America that will help provide healthier foods to people in need. With this donation, the Nationwide Foundation is investing in 22 food banks, including FeedMore, and supporting national produce sourcing efforts to help ensure safe and efficient produce delivery to food banks and their partner agencies.
FeedMore distributes more 52,000 meals each week day through its programs and network of partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child and adult day cares and other nonprofit and community organizations throughout Central Virginia. FeedMore’s comprehensive programs, like the Summer Food Service Program, Mobile Pantry and Commodity Supplemental Food Program, are dedicated to providing healthy meals to neighbors who face hunger. Last year, through its Partner Agency Network and programs, FeedMore distributed more than 19.2 million meals to neighbors in need across Central Virginia.
“We’re committed to addressing the most critical needs in the communities where we live and work. Often those needs are the most basic ones, like ensuring that everyone in the community has enough food to live a healthy, productive life,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Foundation. “That’s why we are proud to partner with FeedMore.”
