What We're Looking For

The position is primarily responsible for supporting all aspects of recruiting, recognizing, and retaining volunteers to support the overall mission of Feed More. Community networking and identification of outreach opportunities is critical to sustain a level of trained corporate groups, civic groups, and individuals necessary to complete our daily volunteer activities and help us nourish the community and empower lives.

The Volunteer Coordinator RRR will be outwardly focused on finding, organizing, and attending recruitment events and opportunities. In addition, the position will assist the manager with planning and organizing recognition events, communications, and will analyze volunteer feedback and survey data to identify areas of improvement for retention. The Volunteer Coordinator of RRR will work within the Volunteer Matters database system to support the volunteer screeners, maintain data integrity, and track and organize volunteers to meet the needs of the day-to-day operations.

What You'll Do

  • Attend speaking engagements, recruitment fairs, and other local events to encourage volunteerism and participation for all Feed More programs; be a positive and enthusiastic ambassador for Feed More, taking every opportunity to promote its programs and services.
  • Coordinate and schedule external recruitment activities to include, but not limited, festivals, faith-based organizations, companies in our serving area, colleges and universities and other places we can share the Feed More message.
  • Work with the Manager of Volunteer RRR and the Volunteer Programs Supervisor to look at in-depth needs and opportunities for better recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers in all programs that require volunteer activity. Creatively offer ideas and help develop plans, trainings, or feedback opportunities to increase retention.
  • Utilize Volunteer Matters volunteer management system to plan, organize, and report on volunteer activity. Help to maintain the integrity of the data within the system by doing regular maintenance.
  • Utilize comprehensive recruitment strategies to meet assigned volunteer metrics by conducting general and targeted outreach and recruiting activities through various channels to obtain volunteer applicants.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, market segments, and populations to create volunteer pipeline for future needs.
  • Work in collaboration with other staff in Feed More’s Volunteer Services Department on projects and assignments.
  • Review volunteer satisfaction survey data and work with operational teams and Volunteer Department to develop and execute engagement and retention strategies to improve the volunteer experience.
  • Recruit, onboard, and supervise the Volunteer Services Volunteer Screening team.
  • Craft materials such as flyers to use for recruitment, retention and recognition.
  • Be cross trained in all programs staffed by the Feed More Volunteer Services Department, thus able to lend a hand as needed with other programs.
  • Help plan and manage volunteer recognition programs.
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with company policies and procedure.
  • Carry out other duties assigned by the manager.

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or another people-oriented field.
  • Prior experience with non-profit organizations or as a volunteer
  • Excellent customer service expertise
  • Expertise with MS Office Suite and the ability to learn new systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple and continuously evolving priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Prior experience with database management
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to multi-task.
  • Must have flexible schedule to accommodate corporate needs. The position requires the individual to work on events and programs at night, on the weekends, and during inclement weather. Must be available for weekend and evening hours as needed for the program or Volunteer Department needs as well as off-site outreach opportunities.
  • Must have own automobile and be prepared to use it on the job. Must have a current Va. Driver’s license and good driving record. Must be willing to travel within the service area of Feed More – 29 counties and 5 cities to help in recruitment and training of volunteers.

Ideally, Will Have

  • Knowledge of food bank programs and an awareness of how specific functions relate to programs and the mission of food banks.
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about volunteering and the Feed More mission
  • Creative thinking skills
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
