What We're Looking For
The Safety and Compliance Senior Manager position is designed to ensure Feed More complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards. Works in a management capacity with our Leadership, staff and volunteers to oversee the safety of those handling day-to-day tasks related to workplace safety. Tasked with developing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures related to safety and compliance, environmental health, and related operational processes. Which includes creating training programs for employees or contractors and establishing reporting mechanisms for capturing issues and mitigating risk. Consistently drives a safety culture, influences without authority, and raises the bar on the overall safety performance of the entire organization.

What You'll Do
Strategic Thinking
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a strategy / approach for creating a Safety Culture
- Design effective plans to influence the workforce to embrace a safety mindset
- Partner with the Operations Leadership Team to determine opportunities to enhance safety and improve operations flow
- Advise the Operations Leadership Team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations.
- Conduct research on new laws and regulations that could impact the organization’s operations.
- Plan and facilitate monthly safety committee meetings and capture safety metrics.
- Assist Partner Agencies, Hubs, RDOs and/or branches, as directed, with warehouse compliance training, including performing facility audits as needed.
Operations Management
- Assume responsibility for food safety, general safety, and operational training programs across the organization, including staff and agency training.
- Maintain all record keeping including Facility Audit documentation, daily work checklists, training verifications, and other paperwork needed for compliance and oversight.
- Continuously monitor and adapt safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees, include any facility certification (ex. Green Globe, WELL, etc.).
- Develop and implement continuous improvement processes for gathering information about potential risks so that problems can be addressed proactively and promptly.
- Conduct weekly walks of the main Distribution Center and quarterly at our South Hill location to assure compliance with all regulatory food requirements (including Feeding America, AIB).
Data Management
- Review and approve applicable documents before they are released to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure operational compliance with processes, regulations, guidelines, and other requirements.
- Maintain or assist with document change control to ensure documents integrity, quality, and version control.
- Develop and document training programs for employees and update existing systems to ensure that all activities are documented and adhere to Feed More, Feeding America, and government/regulatory inspection agencies.
- Establish standards for employees and partner with management to conduct and enforce those standards through disciplinary action, when necessary.
- Conduct investigations and document any suspected violations of laws or regulations.
- Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer work environment.

Must Have
- Degree in Business, Operations Management or related field; a combination of experience and education may demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
- At least seven years of proven work experience coordinating processes in a distribution or retail environment.
- Experience with AIB, FDA, USDA, OSHA, or other regulatory agency requirements for warehouse and kitchen inspections.
- Must have excellent stakeholder engagement skills; Ability to influence without authority skills.
- Must be able to communicate enthusiastically and professionally- consistently
- Effective and accurate document management skills are required.
- Proficient in MS Office: i.e., Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
- Must have the ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and personalities.
- Ability to work under different environmental conditions – cold, heat, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills, good time management skills, and strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadlines; show initiative and flexibility.
- Must be able to perform in a manner consistent with company vision and operating principles.
- Must be able to meet crises calmly, show attention to detail and accuracy, and can work with a minimum of supervision.
- Familiar with pallet jack, forklift, and other warehouse related equipment
- Must have the ability to work in a Continuous Improvement team environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds – with or without reasonable accommodation; must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate organizational needs. Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including some weekend and evening shifts.
Ideally, Will Have
- 3-5 years of food distribution industry experience
- Warehouse experience including OSHA 30 Certification
- Food safety experience including ServSafe Certification, HACCP Certification, REHS, CSP, or similar
- Knowledge of food bank programs and the mission of food banks
- Bilingual in English/Spanish
