What We're Looking For
An Assistant Kitchen Manager, responsible for assisting the Food Production Manager with the supervision of kitchen production and packaging staff, and volunteers. Responsible for expediting meals for all programs from the Community Kitchen to transportation services. Responsible for covering multiple positions in food preparation and packaging as needed to ensure consistent coverage due to staff PTO, and volunteer supervision in multiple locations. Assists FPM with maintaining timely production and exemplary sanitation standards. Must possess exceptional people skills because of the unique nature of the work and the high volume of volunteers.

What You'll Do
- Ensure follow-through of daily packaging priorities and schedules.
- Work closely with FPM to maintain proper sanitation schedule, enforces safety procedures and proper sanitation throughout the kitchen.
- Cover multiple positions in food preparation and packaging as needed to ensure consistent coverage due to staff PTO and volunteer supervision.
- Assist Nutrition Services Coordinator and FPM to ensure that all recipes and appropriate adjustments are finalized for entry into computerized file.
- Assist staff and volunteers in all phases of packaging, quality assurance, safety and sanitation techniques to meet scheduled packaging needs and industry regulations
- Assist with training of kitchen staff and volunteers
- Assist with coordinating assignments of volunteers to specific work areas
- Stage and organize shipping cooler
- MOW – Oversee Dispatch & Sanitation Coordinator to verify that meals are racked according to route using the Daily Meal Report, and ensure that all diets have been placed on appropriate rack and are stable for shipping
- Kid’s Café – Oversee Dispatch & Sanitation Coordinator to verify that meals have been racked according to route and expedite meals according to route
- Ensure the completion of Kitchen Dispatch forms and records for temperatures
- Oversee printing of Kid’s Café labels
- Oversee the task of Kid’s Café milk, fruit, grain and condiment counting, labeling, and racking
- Oversight of the correct temperature of all foods leaving the kitchen to ensure proper handling
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Take advantage of continuing education opportunities in the food service field
- Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training
Must Have
- High School Diploma and at least five years of proven work experience in a commercial kitchen environment or a combination of education and experience that will provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- ServSafe Certification required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal skills, good time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good math skills

- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and personalities

- Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less
- Proficient in MS Office: i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook
- Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
- Keep work area neat and clean at all times; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation
- Performs all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Must have flexible schedule to accommodate corporate needs, occasional night and/ or weekend work may be required
Ideally, Will Have
- Five to seven years previous work in food preparation, food service or restaurants
- Prior experience with non-profit organizations
- Strong customer service expertise
