Feed More Receives 40,000-Pound Donation from Wegmans in Celebration of New Wegmans Distribution Center

06/15/2023

RICHMOND, Va. – Feed More today received a generous donation of approximately 40,000 pounds of nonperishable mixed grocery product from Wegmans Food Markets. The donation was made to commemorate Wegmans new Distribution Center, opening this summer in Ashland. Wegmans also made a gift of $10,000 to Feed More, which will help the nonprofit provide nourishing meals to thousands of individuals across Central Virginia.

“Donations like this are especially appreciated during the summer months, when thousands of kids and teens in our region lose access to vital free or reduced lunch programs,” said Laura Gambrel, Feed More’s Senior Procurement Manager. “Because of caring, compassionate and committed partners like Wegmans, Feed More is prepared to serve the 1 in 9 Central Virginians experiencing food insecurity with wholesome, healthy meals in their time of need.”

A hunger-fighting partner since 2016, Wegmans has donated nearly 2 million pounds of food to Feed More – the equivalent of 1.5 million nutritious meals for those in need. Additionally, the two area Wegmans stores proudly participate in Feed More’s Direct Store Pick Up program, which enables community food pantries to work with local retail partners to receive perfectly good groceries that would otherwise go to waste.

“As a family company focused on food, our commitment to helping families and communities struggling with hunger runs deep,” said Dave DeMascole, Wegmans Vice President of Supply Chain Planning and Design. “Through support of our local food bank partners like Feed More, we can work together to help nourish our communities.”

Supporting hunger-relief organizations like Feed More is a community giving priority for the Rochester, New York based supermarket chain. Last year, Wegmans donated approximately 32.8 million pounds of food to area food banks in all of its market areas.
