RICHMOND, Va. – Feed More is working hard to ensure our neighbors experiencing food insecurity can enjoy wholesome food for healthy meals this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season – and they need the Central Virginia community’s help!
The holidays are a special time where many families enjoy meals surrounded by loved ones – but for 1 in 9 Central Virginians experiencing food insecurity, it is more difficult than ever to put food on the table. While most of the neighbors Feed More helps have jobs and income, the rising cost of essentials like childcare, housing and insurance are stretching budgets to the breaking point.
In fact, during the last two years, Feed More has seen a 22% increase in need and is back to pandemic-level requests for food assistance. This means there are more neighbors who have never had to ask for help, while those neighbors Feed More already helps continue to face difficult challenges.
That’s why Feed More is asking its incredible community of supporters to help spread joy this holiday season by donating food, funds and/or time.
Here’s some easy ways you can help:
- Donate food. Feed More’s Community Donation Door, located at 1601 Rhoadmiller Street, is accepting donations Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week of Thanksgiving. Feed More is especially in need of nonperishables like rice, beans, pasta and canned goods. Donations can be dropped off any time at the orange donation bins in front of 1601 Rhoadmiller Street. - Donate your time. Do good while you feel good by volunteering with Feed More this holiday season! Feed More’s biggest need is for Meals on Wheels delivery drivers in Richmond, Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell. For all openings, please visit: FeedMore.org/volunteer.
- Give the gift of hope. Your financial support fuels Feed More’s mission. Every dollar donated helps provide four meals for those in need. A donation in honor of a friend or loved one can make a great holiday gift! Donate online at: give.FeedMore.org.
