This year marks the 20th anniversary of a beloved event, and one that is very close to our hearts – Richmond CANstruction!
A unique design build competition that doubles as an art show, CANstruction is hosted by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Richmond Chapter. Architecture firms across the River City compete to raise money and build structures made entirely out of full cans of food, which are donated to our hunger-fighting operations. This year’s theme was animated cartoons and CANstruction teams did not disappoint! From Tweety Bird to Spongebob Squarepants, each character was brought to life in fun and innovative ways.
This year’s Richmond CANstruction was a huge success! With 22,142 pounds of food collected and $2,924 donated, CANstruction will help us provide 30,148 meals to help our neighbors in need. The nonperishable food used in the competition comes directly to FeedMore where our volunteers will sort it so that we can distribute it to our Network of Agencies and other programs.
We want to extend a huge thank you to all of the firms and sponsors that participated! We are honored to be a part of this event and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next year.
If you weren’t able to attend this year, don’t worry – CANstruction will be back again in summer 2019, so stay tuned!
