Richmond Christmas Mother Helps Make the Holidays Extra Special for Richmond Families in Need

12/11/2018

With the support of a generous grant from the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund, Feed More will provide all the fixings for a special meal to around 2,000 families this holiday season. Feed More’s Mobile Pantry, which takes nutritious meals to neighborhoods with limited access to grocery stores and healthy, affordable food options, will distribute the food at 16 sites across greater Richmond this month to neighbors who face hunger.

“For many of us, food serves as the centerpiece of our fondest memories, especially during this special time of year,” said Doug Pick, Chief Executive Officer at Feed More. “We’re incredibly grateful to have the continued support of the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund and the Richmond Times-Dispatch to help us brighten the holidays for so many of the hard-working families we help throughout Richmond.”

During every Richmond Christmas Mother Mobile Pantry distribution this month, each household will receive an abundance of fresh seasonal produce like apples, collards, sweet potatoes, onions and carrots. Each household will also receive a box filled with nonperishable foods including mac and cheese, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, brown rice and blueberry muffin mix.

“I am so delighted to help my community through the holiday season as the Richmond Christmas Mother this year,” shared Richmond Christmas Mother, Daphne Maxwell Reid. “I was overwhelmed by the gift provided by the Christmas Mother Fund to Feed More to help our neighbors enjoy a holiday meal at this wonderful time. I extend my grateful appreciation to everyone who supported this fund this year.”

To round out this special holiday meal, these neighbors will also receive a whole chicken roaster to prepare for their holiday festivities and share with their family, thanks to a generous donation of 2,500 chicken roasters from Perdue.

About Richmond Christmas Mother Fund
The Richmond Christmas Mother Fund seeks to support those in need in Central Virginia during the holiday season by helping to provide food and holiday meals, toys, gifts, clothing, and transportation to holiday events. The community effort is coordinated by the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s five-person Richmond Christmas Mother Committee, a non-profit organization. The Richmond Christmas Mother Fund started in 1935, evolving out of the Richmond News Leader’s Empty Stocking Fund and the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s Good Fellow Club.  To date, the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund has raised more than $7.5 million.  For additional information on the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund, please visit us here.
