This month at Feed More: September 2019

09/03/2019

Back to school is finally here and with it, some great events for you, your family, friends, neighbors and loved ones to enjoy while giving back to Feed More!

Richmond Public Libraries is holding their annual Food for Fines food drive benefiting Feed More! Throughout the entire month of September, if you have an overdue book fee or two that you’re looking to get rid of, head to your library with a canned food donation for Feed More and they will be forgiven. Please note, this applies to fees up to $10.

The Greater Richmond Transportation Company (GRTC) is partnering with Kroger on Saturday, September 7 for the Fill The Bus food drive. A GRTC bus will be parked in the Kroger parking lot at Willow Lawn ready to accept shoppers’ nonperishable and canned food donations. All donated items will be brought back to Feed More to help us in our hunger-fighting efforts!

One of our other incredible grocery partners Food Lion is holding their annual gala apples campaign to help members of Feeding America’s network of food banks. Shoppers can purchase a special Food Lion Feeds bag of gala apples starting Wednesday, September 11 through Tuesday, October 1 and Feed Lion will donate five meals to local food banks in their service area up to $100,000!

Join your alma mater at this year’s Alumni Charity Challenge on the evening of Wednesday, September 18 at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. Bring canned goods and help your school take home the win! All donations will be brought back to Feed More and distributed out through our program and Agency Network to help your neighbors in need.

The Wal-Mart Biz Bowl is back for another year of adult field day fun and some friendly competition! Join us and other area businesses for an afternoon of dodgeball, corn hole, tug-o-war and SO much more, on Thursday, September 26. Feed More will be there to defend our title, and has been selected as the event charity. All companies large and small are invited to participate. For more information and to sign up your team, please check out the Sports Backers website.

Don’t forget, Hunger Action Month begins September 1 and will run the entire month! Keep checking our social media channels for more information on how you can help end hunger one helping at a time.

If you’re not able to make it out to an event this month but are still interested in helping, please consider becoming a Community Champion by hosting an online fundraiser!

You can also organize a food drive and collect some of our most needed items to help our neighbors in need. Head on over to our Giving Food page to learn more and check out our toolkit that will help you spread the word!

Hunger is a year round issue and with your support, we’re able to provide families in need with a hand up all year long.
