FeedMore Receives $1,500 Grant from Banfield Charitable Trust

November 11, 2013

FeedMore recently received a $1,500 grant from Banfield Charitable Trust. The grant will be used towards the purchase of pet food for FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels’ Companion Animals Program.

FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels’ Companion Animals Program provided food for the pets of 262 Meals on Wheels clients from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

“Meals on Wheels not only delivers nutritious meals to people who cannot shop or cook for themselves, but also delivers a range of services to improve the quality of life for our clients,” said Doug Pick, FeedMore CEO. “One of the most important ancillary services is our Meals for Pets Program.”

Eighty six percent of FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels clients need financial assistance to pay for their meals.

“For many of these clients, the challenge of paying for pet food is too difficult to overcome, and many of these clients would deprive themselves of a full meal rather than see their pets go hungry,” added Pick.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued support of community and corporate partners like Banfield Charitable Trust.”

MARTIN’S Food Markets Donates 1,000 Turkeys to FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank

November 11, 2013

On Monday, November 11th, FeedMore received a donation of 1,000 turkeys from MARTIN’S Food Markets, marking the 4th consecutive year that MARTIN’S has donated turkeys to FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank.

“This donation comes at a perfect time of year, and was made even more special, on this Veteran’s Day, to be joined by Cadets from Varina’s JROTC program,” said Jeff Baldwin, media and public relations manager for FeedMore.

These cadets, on hand to assist with the unloading of the turkeys, also donated 461 lbs. of food to FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank. They had been collecting non-perishable food items at their school for several weeks.

“We are grateful for MARTIN’S continued support of our hunger-relief efforts in Central Virginia, and we are always amazed to see students throughout the region get involved,” said Baldwin. “We are inspired by the efforts of Varina’s JROTC.”

Since July 1st, MARTIN’S Food Markets has donated over 443,500 lbs. of food in support of FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank, as well as over $26,000 in support of FeedMore programs. MARTIN’s was also the corporate partner for the recently concluded ‘Scouting for Food’ campaign.

“Every year, support from MARTIN’S allows us to feed countless individuals in need and we are proud to partner with them as we continue fighting hunger in our region.”
