Peanut Proud Delivers Peanut Butter Donation to Federation of Virginia Food Banks

July 25, 2013

Peanut Proud delivered 7 pallets of peanut butter today to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, a partner state association of Feeding America.  The 7 Food Banks across the Commonwealth of Virginia will receive a total of 10,080 jars of Peanut Proud peanut butter.

Peanut Proud, headquartered in Blakely, GA, is a 501(c)3 organization representing all segments of the peanut industry.  Established a few years ago when peanut consumption was down, it has evolved into the industry’s vehicle for charitable and emergency donations supported by contributions from both within and outside of the peanut industry.

Earlier this year, Peanut Proud responded to the devastation in Oklahoma caused by tornadoes with a 60,000 jar donation in coordination with local relief efforts.  In support of the food banks in peanut growing states and their constant need for nutritious food items, Peanut Proud has delivered 22 pallets of peanut butter this week to the North and South Carolina and Virginia food banks.

Leslie Van Horn, Executive Director of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks stated: “We have had to rely on the generosity of the community to restock our warehouses with peanut butter lately due to the growing need in communities across the state. Food Bank shelves are typically pretty bare during this time of the summer so our heartfelt thanks to Peanut Proud and its members for providing us such a great protein shelf stable item.”

Dell Cotton, Executive Director of the Virginia Peanut Growers Association, added:  “It is nice to know that this donation was made possible as a result of contributions to Peanut Proud from our own industry. I am particularly pleased that all of the food banks in Virginia’s Federation will reap the benefits of this nutritious product for those they serve.”

FeedMore to Hold ‘Burgers for BackPacks’ Event in Partnership with Eagle Classic

July 18, 2013

For the second consecutive year, FeedMore has been selected as the charitable beneficiary of the Eagle Classic Golf Tournament, which will be held at Richmond Country Club from August 16th through August 18th. This year’s slogan is “Help Drive Hunger out of Central Virginia” and includes an entire week of events beginning August 12th, including a special culinary event, ‘Burgers for BackPacks’.

The Eagle Companies, title sponsor of the golf tournament, selected FeedMore as the tournament’s charitable beneficiary because of the tremendous impact the organization has fighting hunger throughout Central Virginia.

We are thrilled to once again partner with Eagle Companies and Richmond Country Club during the Eagle Classic and we are proud to have been named the charitable beneficiary,” said Jeff Baldwin, media and public relations manager for FeedMore.

‘Burgers for BackPacks’ will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, from 6-9 pm at Richmond Country Club and will feature specialty burger sliders prepared by several Central Virginia chefs. Tickets for the ‘Burgers for BackPacks’ event are $40 per person and the proceeds will benefit FeedMore’s BackPack Program, a program that provides 2,000 chronically hungry children weekend meals during the school year.

Hunger is a reality for thousands of area’s most vulnerable individuals, children,” said Jeff Baldwin, media and public relations manager for FeedMore. “In Central Virginia, nearly 51,000 children are food-insecure and do not know where their next meal will come from.”

We hope ‘Burgers for BackPacks’ will raise awareness and funds to help us sustain the program during the upcoming school year,” added Baldwin.

The Eagle Classic will be in Richmond for the sixth year and will feature more than 144 professional golfers from 36 countries and throughout the United States all competing for the $110,000.00 purse and for a card to play in the Ladies Professional Golf Association. The Eagle Classic is part of the Symetra professional women’s golf tournament “Road to the LPGA”, presented by BagBoy.

In addition to ‘Burgers for BackPacks’, the Eagle Classic will also include Pro-Ams, Junior Clinics, Skills Challenges, Style Show, Vendor Exhibits, Meet the Pros Party, and a Concert on the Lawn - all leading up to the tournament, August 16-18.
