Meals on Wheels Services
Nutrition and Menus
Meals on Wheels clients receive delicious, nutritious, and visually appealing meals that take into consideration the special needs and dietary requirements of our clients. The professional chefs and volunteers of the Community Kitchen prepare meals from the freshest ingredients. They work hand-in-hand with our Vice President of Food Service and Registered Dietitians to develop menus that meet a wide variety of medical and nutritional needs. Menu items range from comfort foods, such as old-fashioned macaroni and cheese, to sophisticated dishes, such as Spaghetti Bolognese.
Diverse menus are customized to the individual’s health status by offering a variety of special and therapeutic diets. Read more about the diets here. Through our special diets program we can ensure that our clients eat the most appropriate and nutritious meals. In addition, our registered dietitians can assist clients with a variety of topics. They can:
- Evaluate your current food intake and make suggestions related to your symptoms (e.g., nausea, poor appetite, diarrhea, weight loss)
- Assist with special diet needs or food allergies
- Discuss food safety
- Help you obtain liquid nutrition supplements (such as Boost or Boost Plus) if you are underweight
Nutrition counseling is provided free of charge, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
