We often say that Feed More’s Meals on Wheels is more than just a meal, and a fantastic example of this is our cards program.
Every year members of the community, from kids to college students to adults, create thoughtful cards for our hundreds of Meals on Wheels recipients to enjoy. These include birthday wishes, Valentine’s Day, holiday cheer and other greeting cards.
“Oftentimes, the few minutes our recipients spend with a Meals on Wheel volunteer is the only time all day they get person-to-person interaction,” shares Austin Archer, Client Services Operations Manager at Feed More. “So the cards bring such joy when they receive them. They are a fun and important way to help keep our elderly neighbors engaged and their spirits high.”
We love to receive all kinds of cards, from adorable construction paper creations to near professional looking cardstock, we’ve seen it all and loved every piece! And so do the neighbors in our Meals on Wheels program! Often times, they hang the cards on their refrigerator and proudly display them as if they were from their own grandkids and loved ones.
Please consider hosting a card making party for a fun kid’s activity, or have your entire family sit down around the dining table and create cards with meaningful messages that is sure to put a smile on your neighbor’s face. It’s the perfect way for your family to give back to our senior community, and to Feed More!
