For the fifth year in a row, Kroger Mid-Atlantic is partnering with Feed More for Thanksgiving Fueled by Kroger.
With a $7,500 donation to Feed More, the grocer is covering the cost of a special Thanksgiving meal for over 800 senior and homebound neighbors in Feed More’s Meals on Wheels program.
Kroger is also making the week of Thanksgiving extra special for Feed More’s volunteers by giving a $10 gift card to about 350 Feed More Meals on Wheels volunteers.
“This is an event our team looks forward to year after year,” said Doug Pick, Chief Executive Officer at Feed More. “We’re immensely grateful to Kroger for their continued dedication to giving back to the community and their enthusiasm and passion for fighting hunger in Richmond.”
Pick will kick off the Thanksgiving Fueled by Kroger festivities at Feed More on Monday, Nov. 25, where from 10 – 11 a.m. he will distribute gift cards to Meals on Wheels volunteers who will be delivering the first of the Thanksgiving holiday meals to Meals on Wheels recipients.
During the week of Thanksgiving, Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers deliver the Thanksgiving meals to recipients on more than 90 routes across 14 localities throughout greater Richmond and the Tri-cities.
Kroger donated the full cost of the special holiday meal, saving Feed More $4,000. The Thanksgiving meal includes roast turkey and gravy, cornbread stuffing, honey glazed carrots, green beans amandine, a whole wheat roll, cranberry sauce and apple-glazed carrot cake. For recipients with specific dietary restrictions, the menu is adjusted to accommodate their nutritional requirements.
Additionally, to offset the cost of fuel and show thanks for their generosity, approximately 350 Meals on Wheels volunteers during the week of Thanksgiving will receive a Kroger gift card. The average Meals on Wheels driver follows a 13-mile route that takes between 55 – 90 minutes to complete. Kroger will provide each driver with a $10 Kroger gift card to be redeemed at Kroger Fuel Centers to assist with the cost of fuel.
“It’s hard to believe we’re in the fifth year of this partnership with Feed More. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to bring our Zero Hunger Zero Waste efforts to life with initiatives like these,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager at Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “This event allows us to get holiday meals to our neighbors in need and thank Meals on Wheels volunteers who are doing really important work in the community.”
