Hunger Hotline
Position: Hunger Hotline
Supervisor: Community Health and Resource Coordinator
Work Location: Feed More, Richmond, VA
Age requirement: At least 18 years of age and a high school graduate
Time Commitment: Minimum of 72 hours annually (at least 2 shifts per month). Due to the nature of the position, we request that volunteers commit to staying for at least six months.
Shift availability: Various shifts available, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – noon, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Contact Supervisor for current openings.
Spanish Hotline (must be fluent): Wednesday & Friday, 9 a.m. – noon
Project Summary: Volunteers work directly with our network of partnering food pantries. The Hunger Hotline connects people in need of food assistance to a food pantry in their area. The Hunger Hotline receives around 300 calls per month.
Major Tasks: Provide food pantry referral assistance to people in the communities in which Feed More serves.
Responsibilities:
- Answer Phones
- Conduct initial intake
- Research database to find referrals to meet clients’ needs
- Make appropriate referrals as needed
- Follow policies and procedures as defined by Feed More
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and phone etiquette
- Strong communication skills with empathy for the food insecure
- Computer and internet literacy
- Able to satisfactory complete all required training
- Attention to detail
- Fluent in Spanish is a plus
Physical & Working Conditions: Volunteers must be able to sit at a desk for the duration of their three-hour shift, in a climate-controlled environment. Repetitive usage of the phone system will be required.
Client Services Hotline
Position: Meals On Wheels – Hotline
Supervisor: Client Services Staff
Work Location: Feed More, Richmond, VA
Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age
Time Commitment: Minimum of 50 hours annually
Shifts Available: Friday
Project Summary: Improves the health and quality of life of homebound individuals served, so that no one is left isolated. Feed More delivers an average of 6,500 meals to homebound individuals and children-serving agencies throughout Central Virginia.
Major Tasks: Provide customer service to clients, agency partners and volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Promptly answer phone calls from volunteers and clients during meal delivery times
- Take initiative to resolve issues using sound judgement and in accordance with Feed More’s standards
- Quickly assess the nature of the call and provide support to ensure the wellbeing of the clients
- Accurately and timely enter notes into the database
- Follow policies and procedures as defined by Feed More
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Comfortable working in a database
- Excellent customer service
- Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Successfully complete all required trainings
- Able to sit for extended periods of time
