RICHMOND, Va. – FeedMore announced that it recently received a $25,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation. Part of the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program, this grant will help FeedMore continue to provide nutritious, cooked-from-scratch meals for homebound seniors and disabled individuals throughout Central Virginia.
“We are dedicated to providing our Meals on Wheels recipients with healthy, nutrient-rich, homecooked meals,” said Katie Jantzi, Director of Meals on Wheels and Senior Nutrition Programs at FeedMore. “Good nutrition is vital to our homebound senior’s health and our 14 different therapeutic diets help ensure the seniors we serve eat better and most importantly, feel better.”
Since the program began in 1967, when it served just eight clients, FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels has grown significantly and currently serves approximately 700 homebound seniors and disabled individuals across 14 cities and counties every day. In addition to the nutritious meal deliveries, FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels program extends far beyond the meal, providing recipients with daily social interactions, safety checks and more.
With the help of FeedMore’s dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteers, each meal delivery helps reduce isolation, reassures and comforts families who live far from loved ones and keeps homebound seniors and disabled individuals independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. “Through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program, we are able to assist wonderful organizations like FeedMore and give back to the communities where we serve,” said Brooke Mueller, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs at Walmart. “We are delighted to support FeedMore and their Meals on Wheels program which helps bring nutritious, healthy meals to homebound seniors and disabled individuals in Central Virginia.”
