Community Kitchen

In 2005, the Central Virginia Food Bank and Meals on Wheels came together to build a joint kitchen, appropriately named the Community Kitchen, to cost effectively create cooked-from-scratch meals for children, families and seniors across Central Virginia.

This state-of-the-art facility is where our highly-skilled team and dedicated volunteers prepare and cook nutritious meals for thousands of vulnerable children, seniors and homebound individuals across Central Virginia.  Every day more than 3,000 healthy meals are prepared for our Kids Cafe, Summer Food Service Program and Meals on Wheels programs.

The bright, bustling 5,400-square foot Community Kitchen is LEED Silver Certified with solar panels on the roof to heat water.  The kitchen also has many other eco-friendly attributes including lighting that is adjusted to the amount of daylight coming through the windows and many of the materials used are recycled.

With about 80 percent of FeedMore’s Community Kitchen workforce made up of volunteers, we are able to produce high-quality, high-quantity food at reasonable prices.

This program is important because several of the kids who come wouldn't normally have a meal prepared for breakfast and lunch. This meal is the only meal that some of the children will receive.
