We’re looking for:

A dynamic professional skilled in relationship building and communications with a keen ability to listen, plan, and follow-up. Strong applicants will have demonstrated experience communicating with diverse audiences and utilizing data, systems, and information to develop and implement strategies to enhance donor interest, commitment, and opportunities in our serving area to create better outcomes for those who struggle with food insecurity.  A Leadership Giving Officer is responsible for a portfolio of individual leadership gift donors and prospects at Feed More. Currently, this position will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and will serve as a member of the Feed More Development team.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage a portfolio of +/- 100 donors and donor prospects, those donors with capacity and/or history of a gift of $5,000 or more for annual, capital, and planned gifts.   This portfolio will be primarily focused on individuals but may include organizations and corporations.
  • Act as principal donor strategist for each donor and donor prospect in the portfolio with specific responsibility to develop a written plan for each donor, keep appropriate records related to the donors, and act upon the written plans.  Such plans will include cultivation, education, event participation, stewardship, and solicitation, and will often involve other philanthropy staff, leadership, board members, or others.
  • Identify those donors for whom planned giving would be an appropriate option and encourage donors to make such plans, provide information and solicit planned gift decisions.
  • As a valued member of the philanthropy team, work together with others in the department to meet fundraising goals as identified in the organization’s annual budget(s), specifically generating gifts from portfolio donors.
  • Cultivate new donors through follow-up with those who attend events, volunteer, attend a speaking engagement or otherwise express interest.
  • Prepare written proposals for major gifts.
  • Represent Feed More as a speaker, tour provider, event participant, or other opportunity, as requested.
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer and department staff to fulfill and improve the department’s overall Philanthropy Plan.
  • Coordinate with all Feed More departments and staff and help to build collegial working relationships among all who work, volunteer, and receive services from the organization.
  • Initially work to learn and support the existing programs to maximize people, process, and program impact.
  • Be externally facing and create and deepen catalytic partnerships with new and existing community resources.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships inside Feed More.

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-5 years in development, sales, volunteer management field with expertise closing gifts, outsides sales, or recruiting volunteers. Major gift/strategic gift emphasis and prior non-profit experience is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven public speaking and presentation experience
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with public relations, community resources and marketing strategy and tactics
  • Evidence of successful program planning, innovation, and management
  • Strong experience and skills in donor relationship development and management; knowledge of planned giving and experience working with planned giving donors a plus
  • Must have working knowledge and ability to utilize a database for prospecting and fund raising
  • Proficient in MS Office: i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with CRM systems is required. Raiser’s Edge is strongly preferred
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and personalities
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace and meet tight deadlines
  • Have high degree of accuracy and superb judgment as it relates to the use of confidential information in customer and donor relationships
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills, must be a team player who enjoys people and works toward positive outcomes for all concerned
  • Ability to meet crises calmly and show initiative and flexibility in day-to-day operations
  • Must have own automobile and be prepared to use it on the job.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record is required.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required

Ideally, will have:

  • Advanced degree in business, philanthropy, public administration or a related field or progress toward such degree; CFRE certification or progress toward certification
  • Prior experience with corporate donors, or as a for-profit corporate employee or manager
  • Knowledge of community leaders, corporations, and influential decision makers
  • Strong understanding of sound financial management and budgeting
