This month at FeedMore: September 2018

FeedMore front entrance

As summer comes to an end and fall takes over, the Richmond community is abuzz with some amazing events! In addition to September being Hunger Action Month, there are some wonderful hunger-fighting happenings going on in and around the River City that you and your family are sure to love.

Who doesn’t enjoy a delicious steak dinner? Every Monday evening in September, Baker’s Crust in Short Pump and Carytown will be offering a $7 eight oz. Black Angus steak dinner complete with cauliflower mashers, with $1 from every meal sold coming to FeedMore.

Do you have an overdue library book or three? If so, don’t you worry! Richmond Public Library will forgive fines up to $10 in September with a nonperishable food donation. All food collected throughout the month will come back to FeedMore so that we can distribute it through our Network of Agencies and programs.

Join more than 30 colleges and universities on Wednesday, September 12 at Hardywood Craft Park Brewery for the 6th annual Alumni Charity Challenge! This fun event started in 2013 with the VCU Alumni Richmond Chapter and has collected more than 40 tons of canned food to benefit FeedMore. Check out the complete list of schools and stop by to cheer on your favorites!

Be there for the inaugural Governor’s Race with Governor Ralph Northam and First Lady Pam Northam on Sunday, September 23 for a 5k run/walk and kids run in downtown Richmond. All participants are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item that will be donated to FeedMore and distributed throughout our 34 city and county service area to neighbors who face hunger!

If you have ever wished there was an adult field day, you’re in luck! The Wal-Mart Biz Bowl will be held on Saturday, September 29 and is open to any local business or corporation. Activities will include tug-of-war, an obstacle course, corn hole, dodge ball, golf chipping, a basketball shootout and so much more. Our friends at Sports Backers organized this great event and your support will help us distribute healthy meals to our neighbors in need.

If you’re not able to make it out to an event this month but are still interested in helping, please consider becoming a Community Champion by hosting an online fundraiser! Whether it is for a birthday, wedding, special occasion or just because, with our new online giving platform you can create a personalized fundraiser to easily share with your friends, family and contacts.

You can also organize a food drive and collect some of our most needed items to help our neighbors in need. Head on over to our Food Drive page to learn more and check out our toolkit that will help you spread the word!

Hunger is a year round issue and with your support, we’re able to provide families in need with a hand up all year long.
