If you are looking for a fun, feel-good activity this summer, sign up to volunteer at Feed More in our Community Kitchen or with our Meals on Wheels program! You’ll be joining an amazing group of dedicated, passionate and generous members of our community who help us carry out our mission of collecting, preparing and distributing food to those in need across Central Virginia.
With around 200 volunteers lending a helping hand each weekday, we currently have openings for volunteer drivers for our Meals on Wheels program in the Tri-Cities, South Richmond, metro Richmond and Mechanicsville areas.
Volunteer drivers play such a critical role in the program. Not only are they delivering a nutritious meal, but also provide an important safety check to our recipients that helps to ensure they are doing well and living comfortably in their homes. These checks are sometimes the only contact recipients have with another person that day, and are equally as important to these homebound neighbors as the meal.
Meals on Wheels volunteers must be available from the 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and be able to use their own vehicle. For those wanting to volunteer and are under the age of 18, you can assist with deliveries if accompanied by a parent/designated adult. In addition to helping us deliver more than a meal with our Meals on Wheels program, our Community Kitchen is looking for volunteers in the packaging and preparation areas during the months of July, August and September. Don’t worry, if you aren’t sure about your knife skills, we provide on-the-job training! Please note, because our kitchen is an industrial kitchen with safety restrictions, volunteers must be 16 years of age or older in order to lend a helping hand.
