The Great Pantry makeover strikes again!

12/18/2018

Food Lion’s Great Pantry Makeover has been a fun and important event here at Feed More for the past four years. As part of Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion selects food pantries throughout their 10-state service area to update and upgrade, helping these nonprofits better serve their communities.

Since 2015, we have been fortunate enough to have at least one of our agencies chosen each year as a recipient, including St. Matthias in Chesterfield County, Harvest Food Pantry in Goochland County, CapUp in Richmond, Ephesus Community Service in Richmond and Proclaiming Grace Outreach in Barhamsville. And this year the Clarksville Food Pantry in Mecklenburg County was a lucky recipient!

With a food insecurity rate of around 15 percent in Mecklenburg County, the Clarksville Food Pantry is a vital part of their community. They serve between 125-135 people every month- several of which are under the age of 18.

About 10 local Food Lion associates showed up on makeover day ready to work and the results were nothing short of amazing!

“It was a great day,” shared Josh Stutz, Corporate Relations Manager at Feed More. “The whole team pitched in, replacing ceiling tiles, building new shelves, sweeping floors and stocking the shelves with over 1,000 pounds of new food donated by Food Lion.”

Additional refrigeration was also installed to help them expand their perishable food storage, and outdoor signage was added to help make them even more visible to the public that needs them.

We want to thank the compassionate team at Food Lion for their continued partnership and dedication to fighting hunger in Central Virginia and across the United States.
